GOP Convention - Part 2

Geeze.  I thought I’d be in a better mood this morning.  But I’m not.

RHINO McCain appears to be leading, nationally.  Imagine that.  Who’d have guessed?  I mean the media has been pimping pumping him for ever.  So, listen up friends … It ain’t the Trilats that are running the world, it’s the media.

<sigh>

I didn’t attend the convention proper, just the dinner the night before.  When the voting started I was driving toward the West Side of Charleston to pick up some auto parts.  I kid you not, there was a black cloud over the city.  Now, it was the beginning of the rain storms that had been predicted.  But if I were the type of person who believed in omens and signs I would have been scared out of my pants!

I posted at Holywriter’s site that it will be interesting to see how many Republicans bother to show up in May, for the primaries.  I can’t help but think there will be fallout from this convention.  NOT that the convention idea is a bad one, but the way it was rolled out and the participation by the ‘anointed few’.  Did the desire to be in the media spotlight cause the party ‘leaders’ to prostitute their-selves.

I called my local “party headquarters” and emailed Mr. Bob Fish for some details back in December.  Never got a return call nor email.  Now that is sad.  But then, I’m not a well-known mover and shaker around here.

I may start my own little campaign to get disenfrachised voters to switch from a major party to Independents, just through the primaries. That may get some attention.

What do you think?

UPDATE:  I’ve been reading Sprouse’s blog Change WV and am noticing I’m not the only perons with problems regarding the Republican “Convention”.  And, in reading the Holy Writer’s comments, I’m wondering if the whole process was legal.  Can a private corporation hold the Republican Convention and distribute the delegates?

Maybe someone out there can answer that for me.

  • I think it’s a great idea. When your party isn’t doing things the way you think is right, you should let them know about it. Since you’ve done this, the only way to go from here is to vote with your feet (or registration as the case may be). You’ll still be a conservative and vote conservative. I would also make sure that TPTB know about it and know exactly how many are switching registrations for that reason. One advantage of being a smaller party is that everyone has a larger voice.

  • As someone who knows Bob Fish personally, you’re not going to get a call back. There was a small effort to stop this convention before it happened, but certain members of the party’s elite wanted it this way and any dissent was squashed. It should also be pointed out that the party didn’t actually run the convention. The convention was a private entity, incorporated as the “WVGOP Presidential Convention Inc.”

I think you’re right, it’ll be interesting to see how many party faithful show up at the polls. It will also be interesting to see if the party made a profit off the convention, which was the ultimate plan.

  • I did notice the constant reference to the “Convention Inc” stuff.

Wonder why the “press” didn’t make more mention about it being held ‘privately?’

So, my $50 didn’t go to the party. How can the party make a profit if they didn’t hold the convention?

  • I can see the lightbulb over your head from here.

  • ;)

  • The GOP (and the Dems, Libertarians, etc.) are all private organizations. They can choose candidates anyway they want to, as far as I know. If they want to put roosters named “McCain,” “Romney,” “Paul,” and “Huckster” in a ring and give the nomination to the last remaining chick, that’s OK. That’s why there’s such variety across the country regarding primaries v. caucuses, even within the same state.

As far as I know, anyway.

  • Also - that’s how the Dems get away with this cockamemey (sp?) “super delegate” system, which may implode at the convention if the race stays as close as it is. The ironic thing being that the GOP might go down the same path to deal with your RINO problem.

  • Well, I understand the GOP is a private organization, but where does the NEW private organization WVGOP Convention Inc come into play and where do they get the authority to hold the convention and pay the GOP’s debts?

Is that similar to RJ Reynolds paying off EZ Wider’s debt following RJR’s tobacco rolling convention?
