Shameless Self-Promotion
I feel so bad! I’ve received two “awards” and I haven’t posted my thanks or completed the requirements. I started a post a couple weeks ago. I had to leave the computer for a few minutes and I lost it. Echoes of “Save early! Save Often!” rang through my head the rest of the day. Since then, I’ve just been swamped with things and haven’t chiseled time.
First, JediJawa tagged me with the “A Roar for Powerful Words” award. I did a little checking on this and found that, indeed, it aims to celebrate good and powerful writing in the blogosphere. It comes from The Shameless Lions Writing Circle. Awardees are expected to list three things they believe are necessary for good, powerful writing; and then pass the award on to the five blogs they want to honor. Here are my recommendations:
-
Be Yourself – If you spend your time trying to imitate another writer eventually you stall. Then, after you stall long enough, you stop. Use other writers to spur your imagination.
-
Be Honest – You can only make-up stuff for so long. Well, ok, let me rephrase that. Unless you are a fiction writer you can’t fake being what you aren’t for very long.
-
Just Write – Every writer has a tough time getting started from time-to-time. Almost every ‘serious’ writer will tell you to just start writing when you hit those times. It’s true. I often find myself struggling to get started with just the right words. When I just move forward and come back later to fix the beginning I usually find that what I thought I wanted isn’t what I needed.
So, now to nominate five other bloggers …. See, I don’t read that many and a lot of them have already been nominated by those in my ‘blogging circle’. Here goes:
Thanks for the nod Jedi!

Thank you very much. It means a lot that you like my stuff, as you are the state’s leading female conservative voice and I’m some center-left guy who spends too much time griping about grocery stores and fast food to write about much of importance.
