2008 Primaries/Caucus — Bull (2)
Ok, well, there isn’t much to crow about on the other side either.
Front runners are currently McCain and Huckabee - neither a true conservative. McCain has no chance. He’s past his prime. He needs the political equivalent of Viagra to keep up. This is his 5 minutes of enjoyment.
I threw him out when he co-authored McCain-Feingold. I could have kicked the carcass over his position on illegals. Just being a war hero won’t do it. My grandfather fought in WW I, got mustard gassed, became a wife-beater. You don’t always come back a great person.
Huckabee - at first I had some friends tell me he’s the choice. But I just cant’ do it. Ok, he’s a preacher. Big deal. That doesn’t make him a conservative. Jim Baker was a preacher, too. His record as Governor of Arkansas leaves a lot to be desired, in the conservative camp.
So, why does Romney get beat up for his religious beliefs, but Huck gets a pass because he’s a preacher? For the record, I’m not a big Romney fan either. But I think its wrong to harass him over being Mormon. I only know a couple Mormons, but they haven’t eaten me yet.
I like Fred. I know, he isn’t handsome and he isn’t clawing and scratching for the spot. But I can see him telling ol Mahmoud to kiss his #ss. I mean, he’s no more wrinkled than Hillary. And I haven’t seen him crack under the pressure and bawl like a calf either. — Wait, she didn’t bawl either, she just swallowed hard. No, that was Monica. No, Monica apparently spit … well anyway.
If I had to pull the lever today it would be for Fred.

What is it in Huck’s record that makes him not “conservative” (whatever that means)? He seems to be a full-blooded member of the religious wing of the GOP, even to the extent that he applies that to fiscal policy as well as social policy. That seems to be where he gets in trouble with some GOP voters.
Not that I have a dog in that hunt, but I’m curious what you think.

Are you concerned that Fred shows less energy than McCain? I understand you having a problem with his record but he seems to be keeping up okay in my opinion. Also, can I be added to the blogroll?

Thanks, Muze! thats interesting reading. And I’ve got to echo JDB’s question. I’ve got my own views but I’d be interested in yours. I’d put him more on the neocon scale (with more concern for social issues) than on the traditional conservative scale (with more concern for market issues). What’s your take?
And I honestly believe that Huckabee’s getting a bye on the religion thing because he’s not a Mormon like Romney is. Romney wouldn’t be getting half the flack if he belonged to a Protestant Christian faith.
Just my thoughts, and of course that and a couple of dollars will get you a cup of coffee.

I’m right there with you Muze!
For the previous commenters-
Huck is weak on immigration, taxes, he shows evidence everywhere he steps that he supports a “nanny” state, and he’s emotionally divided.
When you “get the call” to be a pastor does that mean “just until something better comes along”?
Where is his flock now? Are “we” his flock?
I say no.
I think Mitt could leave his theology at the door before Huck could,, and I’m no friend of Mitt!
