Earworms — Not just for corn anymore

One of my more liberal blogger buddies [there are a couple who tolerate me]  tagged me with that ‘meme’ thing that requires you to list things about yourself and pass it on.  Sorta like chain mail.  That caused me to do a little more reading on the subject.  In the course of that reading I stumbled across the term ‘earworm.’

I don’t ususally like to use Wikipedia as a source. That’s primarily because it is not an acceptable source of information for the research papers I have to do for class.  But, it seems to be a good reference for general things and a good compass for more information.  So, I check the term ‘earworm’ and find out that it is the official word for that horrible condition of having a song ’stuck’ in your head.

Apparently some German word Ohrwurm  means  song stuck in your head.  Who’d have thunk it.  So I though I would list a couple songs that, once I hear or recall, get on the mental bypass with no exit sign.  Sometimes it isn’t the entire song, but the chorus.

  • Back in the Saddle — Aerosmith — Im back in the saddle again
    Im back
  • The Old Man Down The Road - John Fogarty — You got to hidey-hide, you got to jump up run away; You got to hidey-hidey-hide, the old man is down the road.
  • This Is Halloween - Nightmare Before Christmas Soundtrack — This is Halloween, this is Halloween, Halloween! Halloween! Halloween! Halloween!
  • It’s A Small World - Pepsi/Walt Disney - It’s a small world after all It’s a small, small world
  • Detroit Rock City — Kiss — Get up Everybodys gonna move their feet, Get down Everybodys gonna leave their seat, You gotta lose your mind in Detroit Rock City.
  • All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight - Hank Jr. — We cooked a pig in the ground, we got some beer on ice, And all my rowdy friends are coming over tonight.
  • A Holly Jolly Christmas - Burl Ives - Have a holly, jolly Christmas, and in case you didn’t hear, oh by golly have a holly, jolly Christmas this year.
  • Carol of the Bells - Manheim Steamroller
  • The number one song that sticks in my head is …. The Smurf Song! — La la, la la la la, la, la la la la …

Oh god no!  Help me!  Put some Loretta Lynn on the IPod. Get the Sevin Dust!!! Help me get this SONG OUT OF MY HEAD!!!
