Wild Wonderful West Virginia … about d*mn time.

Many years ago, the unofficial offical slogan of West Virginia was “Wild, Wonderful West Virginia.”  Then, along came Governor Joe Manchin and he decided he knew best.  You know, the people never really know what’s best for them, the politicians need to tell them.

So, Good Ol’ Joe decided to change the highway welcome signs to “West Virginia, Open for Business.”  (Yeah, right)  The people have been complaining ever since.  That’s just a dumb slogan.  There’s nothing else you can really say.  It’s just dumb.

Now, in an attempt to make the people feel as though they have tangible power when it comes to state government, Governor Manchin admitted defeat and let the people ‘vote’ on a ‘new’ slogan.  And they chose ….. “Wild, Wonderful West Virginia.”  <yawn>

I’m so impressed!!  The people actually have a say in government issues.  /sarcasm

Come on people.  This is a joke.   Our economy is junk, our capital county is busting meth labs all over the place, a doctor who hid child abuse that contributed to the death of a little boy keeps getting his hearing post-poned, schools are suing over football games and you are excited about a new state slogan.

  • I’ll agree that “Open for Business” was dumb, and I’m very glad that it’s been changed. Though I’m a lifelong Democrat, I’ve never voted for ol’ Joe, which is tough considering that I grew up in Marion County.

  • I agree with you, Muze. This state has a lot more things to worry about than signs.

But I was immediately irked by Manchin’s “Open for Buisness”. Number 1- what the hell does that mean exactly? Is Ohio or Virginia closed for business? Number 2- that was Manchin’s campaign slogan for christsakes. So with every new governor are we supposed to expect taxpayer funded campaign slogans on our signs?

Hopefully, a lesson has been learned. But just think about how much money has dumped into this whole mess.
