Blog Challenge

The challenge has been made.  Use the word “hobbledehoy” in a blog post.  Jedijawa used the cheap, easy way.  Me, I’ll use hobbledehoy more than once, legitimately.
My younger son is 18 and only just earned his driver’s license last week.  He is learning the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat as he takes [...]

Till The Fat Lady Sings

Well, ballots were cast, but it just ain’t over.
Bloggers around the state have been jumping to proclaim victory for table games since Saturday night.  I’ve been holding off, thinking about what just happened, trying to contact the Oracle for the answer.
Thirty-three votes are all that give the pro-gambling expansion the nod over the anti-gambling expansion.  [...]

Kanawha County Table Games - Morning Before

Here are a couple snippets from local news on the table games vote in Kanawha County …
Dan Adkins, vice-president of Hartman & Tyner Inc., which has owned the racetrack since 1989, said he couldn’t say how much Tri-State had spent for a flurry of television, radio and print ads pushing for table games. Tri-State has [...]

Table Games (continued)

And then there’s this.

What you have here is a picture of some Vote No folks in Sissonville behind some Vote Yes folks.  The guy with the sash is dressed like Jesus and, if you look carefully, he is holding a Vote Yes sign.
<sigh>
Can’t we leave religion out of this?  On both sides?

Table Games

Today is the last day for those wishing to vote early in Kanawha County.  I happened to be in Charleston early and decided to go ahead and vote.  It was six minutes after 8:00 a.m. when I exited (polls opened at 8:00) and there were about seven people who voted in front of me.
The ballot [...]

I Stand Against Table Games

Let me get this out up front.  I am voting against table games.
Ah – you lose.  I’m not a “right wing religious extremist” standing against table games on moral grounds while I lobby to keep BINGO tax-free.  I’ve been to casinos in Atlantic City and I’ve been to Tri-State and I’ve been to Wheeling.  [...]

Give Granny to the Government

The same people who give you Child Protective Services wants you to give them your Granny to care for.
Do the math and you will see that 73,000 hours will equate to 35 senior citizens receiving 40 hours of service per week for 52 weeks.  Or 8 senior citizens 24 hours care 7 days a week, [...]

Governor’s Connection to Table Games

Here’s a news flash for you.  The IBEW member in this photo is the brother of one of Gail Manchin’s personal assistants.  That personal assistant is the daughter-in-law of Bob Phalen, UMWA District 17 heavyweight.
Coincidence?  You decided.
