Amnesty –> NO!

I love you Don Surber!  At least, I love the post you have titled Amnesty Bill Death Watch

I wish I had the time to chase all these things.  Thank g-d for people like Don, who not only have time, but get paid for a lot of it!

Any bill, and I mean ANY BILL that allows someone who entered this country illegally, or stayed here illegally, to make atonement or pay a fine is amnesty.  Either create a reservation to put them all on [since our prisons are so crowded] or run them out.  No one who skipped the process already in place should be given a break.  Those who are playing by the rules should be getting the breaks!

In his post Don says  “Americans do not want to reward Criminal Behavior.

Illegal immigration is a felony.

My God, how deaf, dumb and blind do you have to be not to detect that simple fact? We are a nation of laws. How I wish our lawmakers would keep that in mind.”

You can put lipstick on this pig, but it’s still a pig.

Byrd is agin it.  This time, I am, too.   I haven’t seen anything on the position of Rockefeller, Capito, Mollohan or Rahall.  Byrd usually sets the tone on big issues like this. Capito has been know to do her own thing, but I’m figuring this time she’ll do the right thing and stand against this bill.

If “my party” fails me on this one, I’ll be visiting Vera McCormick and registering as an Independent.

  • I think Bill Moyers nails it when he explains this issue in WAR ON THE MIDDLE CLASS. Illegal aliens are tolerated because big business wants it that way. They love having access to cheap labor in this country. As long as big business owns Congress, the illegals are here to stay (and will probably become legals with the swipe of a pen eventually).

  • Oops, I meant Lou Dobbs. Don’t know where Moyers came from. Monday brain cramp.

  • One of the wonders of the American political system (two parties, weak party discipline) is the way these sorts of issues can create temporary alliances between usually opposing groups, in this case law-’n-order Tories and pro-labor lefties.

I, for one, grew up around WAY too many folks that were content to exploit welfare to have much disdain for those that are here to actually work.

My solution: let’s keep the illegals and send 12 million of our lazy bums to Mexico.

  • Chris — you may be on to something!
