Gosh, this is a day when I wish I had the kind of job that would allow me to look up all the hard numbers. I need them, but there is no way I will be able to get my hands on them, although I’ve seen them off and on for years.

This flares because of the April 10, 2007, article in the Charleston Daily Mail
W.Va. gets more than its share of federal dollars. According to Jake Stump’s article,
West Virginia received $471 MILLION — $471 MILLION from the federal government in earmarks alone. That doesn’t count the welfare, CHIP, Medicaid, Medicare, WIC, housing assistance, Pell Grants, and regular federal monies drawn down as matching dollars or to provide federal assistance and programs.
Talk about a welfare state!
This just beats it all. How can the people of West Virginia claim to be free when they are ingesting $471 million in federal pork on top of the federal egg and milk allowance?
And can someone tell me this … what the h*ll has all that money gotten us?
According to information from the US Census Bureau, West Virginia has the 3rd lowest per capita income in the COUNTRY!! We are LAST in median income. We are 36th in citizens with at high school diploma and 50th in citizens with a Bachelors degree!
According the Daily Mail article, obscene amounts of money has been given to nonprofit groups connected to Congressman Alan Mollohan. One of the “nonprofits” is credited with developing a two week summer ‘program’ for minority college students and a robotic vehicle initiative for the military. And then there are the really needy … the arts and crafters. Yep, the artsy-fartsy crowd of MountainMade and Vandalia Heritage received over $1 million each.
[Aside – What’s with Vandalia Heritage using a peacock as a logo? They aren’t even native to WV.
The Indian Peafowl is a resident breeder in eastern Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka. The peacock is the national bird of India.
The Green Peafowl breeds from Myanmar east to Java. The IUCN lists the Green Peafowl as vulnerable to extinction due to hunting and a reduction in extent and quality of habitat. ]
People of West Virginia, you are not now, and may never have been truly free.
You are being screwed at every turn and are being paid less than 1% of what you are worth. Your talent is being sucked out as the young people leave at the first opportunity, because there is nothing here for them. You are being fed a line of bull by the very politicians you continually re-elect. The “Open for Business” signs are only drawing the drug pushers into the state because of the ridiculous business tax rules.
Those who float around in the “right” social circles are draining you the money being poured into this state. How many of you can actually say you have benefited from any of the programs Allan Mollohan brought into this state? And what percentage of the whole is that?
Robert C. Byrd boasts about the money he brings in, and what has it gotten us?
(This in NOT a generic Democratic Party slam. The problem is that the Democratic Party has been very successful in getting their candidates elected into the majority for over 70 years. There are more of them in charge, thus, more of them who must take responsibility. Long term Republicans haven’t done much for us either.)

Two new studies show why some people are more attractive for members of the opposite sex than others.
The University of Florida, Florida State University found that physically attractive people almost instantly attract the attention of the interlocutor, sobesednitsy with them, literally, it is difficult to make eye. This conclusion was reached by a series of psychological experiments, which were determined by the people who believe in sending the first seconds after the acquaintance. Here, a curious feature: single, unmarried experimental preferred to look at the guys, beauty opposite sex, and family, people most often by representatives of their sex.
The authors believe that this feature developed a behavior as a result of the evolution: a man trying to find a decent pair to acquire offspring. If this is resolved, he wondered potential rivals. Detailed information about this magazine will be published Journal of Personality and Social Psychology.
In turn, a joint study of the Rockefeller University, Rockefeller University and Duke University, Duke University in North Carolina revealed that women are perceived differently by men smell. During experiments studied the perception of women one of the ingredients of male pheromone-androstenona smell, which is contained in urine or sweat.
The results were startling: women are part of this repugnant odor, and the other part is very attractive, resembling the smell of vanilla, and the third group have not felt any smell. The authors argue that the reason is that the differences in the receptor responsible for the olfactory system, from different people are different.
It has long been proven that mammals (including human) odor is one way of attracting the attention of representatives of the opposite sex. A detailed article about the journal Nature will publish.
