Hot House Greenery

Global warming is currently the “hot” topic of the week.  Therefore, I’ll start my blog with it.  To put it simply, I don’t buy it.  Let me be clear …

I do not believe that the actions of man on the earth makes a significant impact on global warming.  Understand, I have not said I don’t believe in the cyclical warming and cooling of the earth.  That much is beyond debated.  There is substantial, in-controversial evidence that the earth has gone through violent atmospheric changes since shortly after the Big Bang.  These climactic changes involved earth changing volcanic eruptions, spewing noxious gasses and lava.

Life forms eventually appeard, adapting, mutating and changing into the prehistoric creatures we have all learned about in school.

Not long after that (relative), a great ice age fell upon the earth, freezing into extinction plants and animals we may never discover.  And, over time, the earth began to warm.  Much of the ice melted.  Whose fault was that?  No one’s, that’s who.

The circle of life on the planet rolls on.

I understand some of the people who worked on the recent U.N. Study of global warming say that it can’t be stopped.  Well, no shit.  It can’t be stopped because it’s not under human control to begin with.

The earth is not some static rock hanging off a string in some giant science class.  There are constant tectonic changes happening, earthquakes, tsunami, volcanoes erupting, arctic weather patterns, el ninos and la ninas. To think that the earth has reached adulthood and can change no more is foolish.

And what can you do about the sun?  It is burning hotter, bombarding the earth with more and intense rays.  You can’t do a thing about it.

I do believe, however, that we should be cleaning up after ourselves, just like you would in your home.  We need to recycle, because it’s the right thing to do.  Especially the non-renewable things, such as plastics.  It doesn’t make sense to clutter up the “house” with stuff that won’t degrade.  It’s stupid to waste, no matter what the item is.

I don’t drive a Prius, but I don’t drive a 1972 Lincoln Town Car either.  I use fluorescent bulbs throughout my house, we have heavy drapes on the double-pane windows and the thermostat is kept at a respectable level.

I do these things because they are the right things to do, and I’m stingy.  I do not do these things because some hellfire and brimstone, charismatic environmental preacher stands in front of the television proclaiming that I will spend my eternity in hell for destroying my grandchildren’s planet (and send a donation).

The church of environmentalism is not for me.  I’ll worship in my own way.
